Arrowrock Reservoir Idaho Fishing Report

Bank fishing . J. Was hard in recent weeks. Spinners, flies and bait will catch fish the worm and marshmallow combo looks to be the top choice of many anglers. Lots of them like Power Bait, too. I saw some reports of anglers ice fishing for perch in shallower coves over the holiday, however with warmer temperatures it s hard to say how long those opportunities will last. When parts of Strike do freeze over, the panfish action tends to be pretty good. I recommend planning on trout fishing, with ice fishing being a nice bonus if you find thick enough ice. It s one of the most convenient but on occasion overlooked fishing spots in the Treasure Valley. The lake has a range of fish, as well as perch, bluegill, crappie and catfish, however largemouth and smallmouth bass are its biggest attraction. There s easy access for smaller boats, like pontoon boats and float tubes, and there are lots of opportunities for uncrowded fishing. Because it s comparatively shallow, particularly on the south shoreline, the water warms pretty quickly in the spring. (magicvalley.com)

June 20: some days up at Arrowrock and the Smallmouth and Perch fishing is really starting to pick up! Had the best luck near the shallow sandy inlets along the shore. Sizes were small with the Smallmouth being 6"-12" and the Perch ranging from 6"-10". I caught about 20-ish smallmouth and more than 30 perch over the 3 days I spent fishing. Best times tended to be in the mid-mornings as early as the sun hit the water. The bass were sometimes hitting small natural colored plastics and small black spinners, however fat night crawlers seemed the best. The Perch went crazy over shrimp and worms. (outdoornews.com)

Fishing for brook trout is still pretty good for turn casters fishing along the lilly pad edges and grassy shorelines, particularly in the morning or afterward in the evening. Fly fishermen may also get in on the action catching both rainbows and brookies on different small streamer flies, Woolly Worms and nymphs. Trollers are doing excellent catching some nice sized trout using small spinners and pop gear. (Check here)

Great report from Frank at C. J. The sturgeon were biting good and a couple nice ones won the fight. Ripped the swivel separately on 80lb line! goes are up and the hole below the bridge is a mud hole, however up the camp site still made. The dam is being opened up sunday and cameras are in place to view just how many sturgeon are going through the dam from the lake. Last year, quite some tagged sturgeon ended up from the lake to the river, so this year a more in depth look is in place. Fish and game states the big sturgeon are in the resevoir. The trout were also biting good on the res from shore by the dam. (coralfanatics.com)

Building the dam in the early 1900s was a monumental feat: the procedure obliged that the downstream Diversion Dam near Boise be retrofitted with hydroelectric turbines to offer electrical power to the dam site. A railroad was really constructed to transport materials and workers to the construction place. The dam workforce was treated to such luxuries as electricity, dormitory housing, hot water and a hospital, though they complained about low pay. Provision for future hydroelectric power generation was built into the dam from the beginning, however turbines weren’t installed till 2010. Because the need for water storage continues to grow, the United States Army Corps of Engineers recently finished a study of the feasibility of adding another 74 feet to the height of the dam – a big undertaking. In the meantime, fishing should be good for stocked rainbows, natives and holdover fish as well as brown trout and whitefish. Casting to the rear end of the riffles and drifting your offering into the deeper pools is your best bet. Attempt tossing small spinners, fly casting both wet and dry fly patterns or drifting bait. Worms are great for catching rainbows, while flies like the prince nymph work great for catching both trout and whitefish. Any left over stocked steelhead will take a well-presented jig, spinner, fly or a nightcrawler. (idahostatejournal.com)

With cooler temperatures, fishing should start picking up at Lake Billy Shaw, Mountain View Reservoir and Sheep Creek Reservoir on the Shoshone-Paiute Reservation. Rainbow trout in the 2-pound range are common, with big fish in extra of 5 pounds possible. Billy Shaw is fly fishing only, while standard tackle is allowed on the other lakes. Nymphs, terrestrials, woolly buggars, spinners, worms and Powerbait are well-liked choices. A special permit is needed, and they are not sold at the Tribal Grocery Store. Changes in sediment regimes can be one of the biggest changes to stream networks post fire. A tremendous amount of good sediment was added to the SFBR throughout these events. Good sediments influenced the quality and quantity of overwintering habitat by filling in side channels and interstitial spaces along the shoreline, these habitat features are important for the survival of bull trout, rainbow trout, and their prey bases. Reduced quality and quantity of overwintering habitat and spawning habitat for prey fishes influence bull trout. Fisheries surveys in the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014 show reduced numbers of age-0 rainbow trout that will support the future rainbow trout fishery and serve as prey fish for bull trout. It rises in three separate forks in the Sawtooth Range above an elevation of 10, 000 ft 3000 m and is made by the confluence of its North and center forks. The North Fork, 50 mi 80 km long, rises in the Sawtooth Wilderness Area, along the Boise-Elmore county line, 60 mi 100 km northeast of Boise. It goes usually southeast through the remote mountains in the Boise National Forest. The center Fork roughly 70 mi or 110 km long rises inside 20 mi 32 km of the North Fork in the southern Sawtooth Wilderness Area in northeastern Elmore County. It goes WSW near the town of Atlanta, joining the North Fork to form the Boise roughly 15 mi 25 km southeast of Idaho City. (anglerweb.com)
