Big saltwater barramundi may be caught just meters from where they launch your adventure at the ship ramp but they like to get you away from the rest of the world and fish the spots only they know about. There’s a or going after some barra. Many trips last year saw clients casting lures to hungry barra in the morning then chasing schools of sailfish in the afternoon. If the wind is up then you may be able to poke up the Finniss River and Little Finniss for some of the best barra fishing in the Territory. Sit back and enjoy the view – the abundance of birdlife and crocodiles will keep your camera rolling. Up to this point, my complete trip had taken place in ideal weather, with warm days, simple winds and lots of sunshine. But, early November is a period when sporadic brief thunderstorms blast the Northern Territory well in advance of the monsoons, and such a storm was approaching as we made prepared to leave Shady Camp with Mannix’s ship in tow.
