Tony Lopez at Benicia Bait and Tackle stated fast-paced striped bass action. He clarified that one buyer came in, bought a pound of grass shrimp, then came back awhile afterward for more, because striped bass in Suisun Slough were biting baits as fast as he could rebait and cast. Most fish were schoolies, however some bigger units came to net also. Bullhead are now thick and that tends to draw hungry striped bass. Sturgeon bit this week. Lopez said, I went out on Tuesday and caught 3, up to 45 inches, using eel for bait. (wonews.com)
Capt. Joey made these top numbers fishing the San Mateo Coast, keeping away from the big amounts of ship pressure from commercial and recreational fleet, while capitalizing on small regions of salmon. The quality of his catch was mixed, from 20 inches to 25lbs, and the most of the fish were on the smaller side. On the North side, the most of the charter ship fleet that was working the Channel Buoys and North Bar area last week, moved North to the coastal regions of Bolinas on a report that new school of salmon started moving into Duxberry Reef. But, the bite was short and spread over a small area, allowing only some charter ship to capitalize. (berkeleycharterboats.com)
This is by far the best halibut year we've had in a while. Though it hasn't been the large open kind of bite we had four-five years ago, at least in going out for for the great greedy doormat of the Bay Area, you don't feel like you're wasting your time that's what they tell me anyway. Unfortunately for the shore fisher the hottest bite was out at the North Bar just outside the Golden Gate and off of Seal Rock. I've eaten more halibut this year than ever before. And haven't caught a single one of 'em. Such is the life of the fishmonger I suppose. Hard to complain. (Visit the website)
As I look up, I notice that I am far out in the Bay, and the wind is picking up. Shafts of sunlight pour down from the East Bay hills. In the west I can see Coit Tower, San Francisco skyscrapers, increasing above a fog bank that curls around the city like a boa constrictor. In my tiny, six-pound tube, I am a mere speck against the panorama of bridges, buildings, container ships and the exhaust of urban affairs. (contracostatimes.com)
SUISUN BAY: Sturgeon bite is good at Buoy 2 and the Glomar. Anglers are fishing deep water with grass/eel or ghost/eel combos. Some 18- to 21-inch stripers continue to be caught from the Martinez Pier. The Diamond Classic catch-and-release Sturgeon Derby will be held Saturday. It is hosted by Martinez Bait & Tackle and supported by Flash Sportfishing. Entry is $25 for adults. Kids with their own division are free. For info: 925 229-9420$. (mercurynews.com)
I have caught everything you could catch off of the wall. If you PM me I can give you lots of info. Spot naming rule really is a factor here. The wall gets crowded on the weekend. Did you know that the I. G. F. A. Worlds record was set by an angler flyfishing for Halibut off of the wall? One of the last times I fished in those waters The United States Navy "The USS Carl Vincent" threatened to blast me out of the water from my little Valco U12 "1st Iraqi war going on" I was anchored inside the wall. Anyway I have lots of info for fishing that wall. (stripersonline.com)
The lake is at 36- capacity up another 5 feet this past week!! The Lime Saddle Marina ship ramp opened this past Saturday, so now there are concrete ramps open on both ends of the lake for 2-wheel drive vehicles. The concrete ramp extension at the Spillway can be open by this weekend. Guide Ron Gandolfi stated the water color was improving as the rains slowed, and incoming water was still the most productive area for bass. Anglers have to look for warmer incoming water in the river arms, creeks, or any source where the water temp is 54 to 56 degrees. Gandolfi said the warmer water was attracting big schools of pond smelt and bass were right behind them. (fishing.blogs.pressdemocrat.com)
Trollers drag shallow or deep diving Yo-Zuri s, Rapala s, P-Line Predator s and Rebel s with a white worm trailer attached to the trailing hook. To increase your chance of hooking up, use your graph to find fish and use your tempt that tracks in the zone the fish are located. Locally, the best chance for bait dunking or trolling is in the San Joaquin River where the water clearness is much better. Some bigger stripers are showing in the Mokelumne River and off the mouth of Potato Slough, with some in extra of 30 pounds. For some fast action, anglers are casting lures like Rat-L-Traps and assorted rip baits daily till the sun dips below the horizon. (californiadelta.org)
Fishing for trout continues to be good with all the trout plants and cooler water temperatures. they’re being caught in South Cove and Oak Point also as Howden and Peninsula coves. The baits of choice for shore anglers are garlic-scented PowerBaits, nightcrawlers or Kastmasters. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. Light tackle is important for catching trout with 4-6 pound test being plenty. There will be a 1000 lb Lassen plant this week. With the continuing plants, trout fishing was holding steady with more limitations being caught from all around the reservoir. (ccwater.com)
