Over at Fisherman’s World I spoke to Jeremy this week and he said that there’s still a pretty good herring bite taking place in the Harbor. The fish are showing a slight preference for smaller Sabiki rigs he suggested size 6 hooks for your best shot. Otherwise the striper bite in the Housy is still a viable choice but the bite is tough. The fish are schooled up in the deeper water as projected in February an this is when they begin to get a sever case of lock-jaw. On occasion a warm snap like the one predicted for this week can trigger them into feeding so this may be a good call if you are wanting to wet a line in the next few days. (thefisherman.com)
I have never fished and I have never spent much time watching people fish. The whole hook-in-the-mouth thing generally seemed distasteful to me. But, I soon discovered fishing is a pure thing for these people. They fish for food, not for sport. They have a relationship with the fish they catch, gutting it, cleaning it, and eating it. For most, it looked to be an nearly zen-like experience. The wait, the tug, the catch, and on occasion the release. it is a peaceful thing to do while the sun dips over the water and the sky turns from blue to red to black. (welcometotripcity.com)
While Zervos was telling that he didn t know what the dock was built for, the 28-year-old server yelled: See what I got today! He pointed at an roughly 30-inch long shark that was at its last gasp, said: It the shark should be weighed around 60 pounds. Chen simply made the judgment depending on his current working experience that gained from a Japanese restaurant on the 5th avenue. I ve been fishing at here nearly a year. This is the 1st time I caught a shark, I ll bring it back to my family! . (startupstudiony.com)
Well into s now considered Bay Ridge comprised of two sister villages: Yellow Hook to the north, named for the color of the soil, and Fort Hamilton to the south, named for the military installation at its center. The latter started to develop in the 1830s as a resort destination to lodge visitors to the army base. The former started to develop after 1850, when a group of artists moved to the area and founded a colony called Ovington Village; before that, it was usually farmland. (en.wikipedia.org)
The eco dock may also be used as an educational took, the councilman said. With help from our friends and partners in the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, the Eco Dock will now be home to big historic and educational ships, so that our local school kids and the general community can tour these boats. We ll have big sail ship and FDNY ship tours and day-trips from other places to Bay Ridge to bring customers and diners to our neighborhood! Gentile said. Right with San Francisco and Hong Kong, New York City has one of the best natural harbors in the complete world and now the waterfront of southern Brooklyn is connected to it all. (brooklyneagle.com)
I’m not still sure if the cod boats will be making it out to the grounds this weekend as sea conditions are wanting to be on the rough side. 5- to 7-foot seas on Saturday building to 8 to 11 feet on Sunday isn’t looking too promising. But, verify with individual boats if you had plans of to get on board to see what their sailing schedule seems for the weekend. The cod bite is really good and is only going to get better as the winter wears on, so missing a weekend won’t put you out of the running for the season. Herring on the other hand won’t stick around forever. There’s apparently no shortage of fish on the North Shore and western Long Island, however cold weather will begin to remain for more than two days at a time which will drop water temperatures quickly. Striped bass in the spring as far as the Federal Dam at Troy N. Y. The eastern side of the river is comparatively shallow and heats up 1st in the spring. The shad and herring take this path up the river and the striped bass follow them. The striper fishing is best in the spring along the rivers east side. But the bigger spawning females frequently stay in deeper water closer to the river channel. When the stripers come back down the river, afterward in the spring they’ll stay more out in the river and maybe nearer the west side, where the water is deeper. (striperspace.com)
Soon enough, the area south of 14th Street was a crime scene, clad with yellow tape and occasional ID checks. The next day, Anthony s worried Canadian parents told him to walk north to their friend s place on 92nd Street. It was dead silent. There were masses walking north, just walking and walking. Emergency vehicles were the only ones heading south. He portrayed how their lights flashed as they drove by, however they were silent no sirens. The vehicles were covered in dust, he said, and he watched as the white matter blew off their roofs and onto the pavement. (news.nationalpost.com)
